IPSS · Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa
Follow every session live, with captions in your language. Ask the Companion what is being said and what past editions concluded, and put your questions to the panel. Nothing to install.
Past editions stay open. Read their programmes and ask the Companion what was said.
The forum app
Open the app on your phone during the forum. The round button at the bottom switches between tools.
See which rooms are on air and follow any session as captions: the floor, an interpretation channel, or a labelled machine translation. Ask the Companion about the session you are watching.
Ask about the programme, the speakers, what is being said right now, or what was said at past editions. Every answer shows its sources, so you can check them.
See what's on now and next, filter by day or track, and read about each session and its speakers. Times are always the forum's local time.
Send a question to a session's panel in your own language. If someone already asked it, add a Me too so it rises up the list.
Answer the organisers' short surveys when they open, now or later. Mandatory ones come first; your answers are kept until you send them.
Search papers, recordings and transcripts from every Tana Forum edition. Results are passages, not just files, and a recording opens at the moment that matches.
Opt in with a short profile and the topics you work on. The app suggests participants who share your interests, and you can message them to meet during the forum.
An AI voice on the panel. Drawing on the live discussion and every past forum, it raises the questions no one has asked and recalls what earlier editions recommended. A forum operator approves each contribution before it is heard.
Under the hood
What happens between a speaker's microphone and the answer on your phone, and how you meet the people worth meeting.
Each session's sound is captured at the room's desk, or from a browser tab for remote speakers, and streamed as it happens. Follow the floor in the speaker's own language, or switch to an interpretation channel. Where no interpreter works in your language, captions are machine translated and marked as such.
Speech is transcribed in real time. Each passage carries its time, its speaker, named from the programme, and the language it was spoken in. Recordings from earlier editions are transcribed the same way.
Papers, recordings and transcripts from every Tana Forum go into one archive. Each one is split into passages and indexed by meaning, so a question in Amharic can find an answer given in French. Curators decide who can see each document.
Ask in your language. Companion searches the programme, the archive and, while a session is on, the live transcript. It writes an answer and cites what it used. Tap a citation to read the exact passage, open a session or speaker, or jump to that moment in the recording.
Open the forum app, tap the round button and choose Companion. Here is what a participant sees.
Your conversations are kept, so you can come back to them during the forum. To put a question to a panel instead, switch to Questions with the same round button.
And between sessions
Opt in with a short profile and the topics you work on. ForumIntelligence suggests participants who share your interests, and you can message them in the app to set up a conversation during the forum.
Built for trust
A high-level forum on security needs more than a chat window. These are rules the platform enforces, not promises.
The Companion answers only from the forum's programme, archive and live transcripts, and links each claim to the passage or moment it came from.
Staff-only sessions are never listed or captioned for the public, and their transcripts never reach the Companion.
Interpretation comes first. Where no interpreter covers your language, captions are machine translated and marked as such.
Curators decide who can read each archive document: everyone, participants, or staff only.
Amharic, Arabic, English, French, Hausa, Somali and Kiswahili, with right-to-left and Ethiopic script done properly.
The app runs in the browser on any phone or laptop. Scan the code, choose your language once, and you are in.
Use the invitation you received by email to create your account inside the forum app, or register on the forum's page. Some forums are open to everyone without signing in.
It runs in your browser, so there is nothing to install. Choose your language once and the app remembers it.
Keep up with sessions while they happen. Afterwards, the forum's archive stays searchable through the Companion.
